Painting and Decorating - Level 3 CSkills Diploma
Course Overview

This one year course is designed to give students a higher qualification in painting and decorating and in a specialist area within the trade.

Course Content

Students will be given instruction, guidance and encouragement to practice and develop the skills necessary to achieve the award.

  • Knowhow to carry out safe working practices in construction
  • Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others
  • Knowledge of building methods and construction technology
  • Erect and dismantle access and working platforms
  • Application of paint systems by brush and roller
  • Apply papers to wall and ceilings
  • Knowhow to produce specialist decorative finishes
  • Ability to carry out specialist architectural feature work
  • Knowhow to apply water-borne paint systems using air-less equipment
  • Preparation of surfaces for decoration.

Entry Requirements

Completion of a Level 2 diploma and Key Skill Level 1. There will be an interview before entry to the course.


The course is continuously assessed by both practical and written assignments/tests. There will an individual multiple choice test set for each unit and an online external test.

What does this course lead to?


Equipment Required

A comprehensive reading list can be supplied on request. The recommended books cost approx £30 (all books can be borrowed from the college and local libraries).

A set of your own brushes will also be recommended but some will be supplied. A4 paper, folder, common stationery, scale rule and constant supply of pencils. All tools and materials are supplied. Boots and overalls or painters trousers are essential for students on this course.
