LV 3 BTEC EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN CONSTRUCTION & BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Course Overview
This advanced level course is aimed at those who want to develop higher level skills in construction and the built environment ready for higher level study at university or college. You will learn about sustainable construction, maths for construction, technology and design and civil engineering, surveying, mechanical and electrical services, project management and planning.

  • Science and Materials in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Construction Technology and Design in Construction and Civil Engineering
  • Building Technology in Construction
  • Project Management in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Graphical Detailing in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Measuring, Estimating and Tendering Processes in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Surveying in Construction and Civil Engineering
  • Setting Out Processes in Construction and Civil Engineering
  • Building Surveying in Construction
  • Mechanical and Electrical Services in Construction
  • Building Regulations and Control in Construction
  • Project in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Design Procedures in Construction
  • Planning Procedures in Construction
  • Information and Communication Technology for Construction and the Built Environment

There may be an opportunity to undertake additional qualifications built into the course that will be assessed by either continuous assessment, a completed portfolio or an end test.

English and Maths
If you are aged under 19 and if you do not hold a GCSE grade C or higher in English and Maths, you will be required to work towards these qualifications.
Entry Requirements

You will need five GCSEs grade A*/9 to C/4 (to include English, maths and preferably science).

Assessment

Students are assessed by continuous evaluation and practical projects and tests.

Activities

This course offers appropriate work experience to complement the knowledge and skills you will learn at College.

What does this course lead to?

Students can progress into Higher Education (typically a degree or HND including HNC/HND study on a part-time basis while you work); or into employment in the construction industry.

Equipment Required

Students will be required to purchase text books; a list will be supplied. 

Additional Costs

Each student is responsible for purchasing general stationery items.

Financial Information
If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free.
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.
Fee Concessions 19 - 23
Fee concessions may be available if you are out of work, on low income or studying for your first Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 qualification. Please contact us for more information.
Staged Payment
A staged payment plan is available to help with course fees.
Travel Subsidy
We offer discounts on rail and Zone 2 buses outside of Basingstoke. There is financial assistance available for those families on a low income.
Bursaries
If you are unable to pay any of the course costs, or need financial assistance you may be eligible to receive a college bursary.
