Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Brickwork (Future Skills Centre)
Course Overview

This qualification builds on from the Intermediate Apprenticeship and is an ideal stepping stone for those wishing to progress to Site Management

This advanced apprenticeship covers roles across the brickwork industry. You will earn as you learn, working in the industry gaining practical experience and learning at college on a day release basis improving your theoretical knowledge. You will also learn about the brickwork profession in general and the types of careers available.

Course Content

This course teaches complex and decorative brickwork by developing your practical and theoretical skills at College, together with experience gained in the workplace. This will include:

  • Setting out complex masonry structures
  • Erecting complex masonry structure
  • Repair and maintenance of masonry structures
  • Constructing radial and battered brickwork
  • Decorative and reinforced brickwork
  • The construction of fireplace and chimneys
  • Safe working practices in construction
  • Planning and pricing of construction work


You will also consider the wider aspects of construction including:

  • Schedules and Specifications
  • Progress Charts
  • Site Supervision
  • Health and Safety


As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also complete Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills Level 2, if required.

English and Maths
If you are aged under 19 and if you do not hold a GCSE grade C or higher in English and Maths, you will be required to work towards these qualifications.
Entry Requirements

Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification. Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of brickwork.

You must also be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job role and have a keen interest in brickwork.

What does this course lead to?

You could progress to study a level 4 HNC/higher apprenticeship in construction.

Within the construction industry there are also plenty of opportunities to move into construction management. Career pathways may include supervisory, management or technical support roles.
