Level 3 CSkills Diploma in Brickwork
LV 3 CSKILLS DIPLOMA IN BRICKWORK
Course Overview

This course will further develop the skills learnt on the Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying.

It's about good bricklaying - the ability to master the art of spreading a mortar bed, dexterity in handling the bricks and the possession of a keen eye as well as a good understanding of basic principles and much practice to produce work that is of a high standard.

Bricklayers are a vital part of the construction industry. They are often involved in the early stages of construction and their work forms the foundations for other trades to work on.

There is a shortage of well qualified bricklayers and they are much sought after in the construction industry.

Course Content

You are now embarking on the advanced course, at the end of which there is no bricklaying job that you cannot take on. On the practical side you will be building models that include circular work, arches, decorative brickwork etc.

In the classroom you will be studying site management, supervision, chimney and fireplace construction, transferring levels etc.

This will include:

  • Constructing detailed brickwork
  • Structural and decorative brickwork
  • Repair and maintain masonry structures
  • Building Technology in Construction
  • Planning, Organisation and Control of Resources in Construction
  • Graphical Detailing in Construction
  • Surveying in Construction
  • Building Surveying in Construction


The Future Skills Centre is designed to train construction workers to support the regeneration of Whitehill and Bordon and the extensive building projects planned for Hampshire. There will be opportunities to visit the sites of the major house builders to see you can see how bricklayers work on site.

English and Maths
If you are aged under 19 and if you do not hold a GCSE grade C or higher in English and Maths, you will be required to work towards these qualifications.
Entry Requirements

You will need to have passed the City & Guilds Diploma in Bricklaying at Level 2.

Assessment

You will be assessed on practical and theoretical elements and assignments throughout the programme.  You will also complete a portfolio of evidence and online exams. 

What does this course lead to?

This course offers progression to employment in construction bricklaying and paving trades.  You could become a brickwork specialist and construct decorative brickwork or arches for new builds or get involved with the restoration of old buildings.

You could also progress to an HNC course/higher apprenticeship to move into the management side of construction. 

Financial Information
If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free.
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.
Staged Payment
A staged payment plan is available to help with course fees.
Reduced Fees
Fee concessions may be available if you are out of work, on low income or studying for your first Level 1 or Level 2 qualification.
Bursaries
If you are unable to pay any of the course costs, or need financial assistance you may be eligible to receive a college bursary.

Travel Subsidy
BCoT offers discount on travel to and from the college for full time students. We offer 50% discount on rail fares and if you are travelling by bus, we offer 25% off Zone 2 buses outside of Basingstoke. There is financial assistance available for those families on a low income.
