Future Skills Centre - Level 2 CSkills Diploma in Building Maintenance
Course Overview

If you’re considering a career in building maintenance and refurbishment and are ready to start developing your skills, then this course is perfect course for you.

This course will provide you with the practical skills as well as the knowledge and understanding of construction to allow you to pursue a career in this industry. You will learn the basics of how buildings are constructed and how to recognise the common defects in different parts of a building. You will be able to treat and repair these defects to industry standards.

Throughout this course you will study a range of subjects, including repairs, diagnosing defects, wall construction, developing customer relations, and health and safety practices.

You’ll also work towards a CSCS card so you’ll be ready to work on a site straightaway.

Course Content

During this course you will study different units which include practical activities in construction repairs as well as developing employability skills and construction related health and safety.

These include:

  • Interpret working drawings to carry out building repairs
  • Building Methods, how buildings are built and the regulations governing them
  • Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
  • Carpentry trade repairs
  • Brick and masonry trade repairs
  • Plastering trade repairs
  • Painting and decorating repairs
  • Plumbing trade repairs
  • Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
  • Understanding construction technology
  • Developing customer relationships
  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries

The Future Skills Centre is designed to train construction workers to support the regeneration of Whitehill and Bordon and the extensive building projects planned for Hampshire. There will be opportunities to visit the sites of the major house builders to see you can see how bricklayers work on site. There will also be regular trips to exhibitions such as Eco-Build.

English and Maths
If you are aged under 19 and if you do not hold a GCSE grade C or higher in English and Maths, you will be required to work towards these qualifications.
Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above (preferably to include English and maths)

Learners will be assessed on practical and theoretical elements and assignments throughout the programme and will complete online examinations.
What does this course lead to?
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to progress to employment, including an apprenticeship or a Level 2 qualification in a specific trade. 
Financial Information
If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free.
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.
Staged Payment
A staged payment plan is available to help with course fees.
Reduced Fees
Fee concessions may be available if you are out of work, on low income or studying for your first Level 1 or Level 2 qualification.
If you are unable to pay any of the course costs, or need financial assistance you may be eligible to receive a college bursary.

Travel Subsidy
BCoT offers discount on travel to and from the college for full time students. We offer 50% discount on rail fares and if you are travelling by bus, we offer 25% off Zone 2 buses outside of Basingstoke. There is financial assistance available for those families on a low income.
