LV 3 VTCT NVQ DIPLOMA IN BARBERING
Course Overview

In association with Mike Taylor Education we are proud to present our newly designed suite of barbering qualifications. The Barbering NVQ Level 3 is a nationally recognised qualification for anyone who wants to learn advanced skills and techniques.

This is our most advanced barbering course designed to build on your existing knowledge and help to develop and enhance your barbering skills

Through this course you will learn how to give consultation support to other colleagues, monitor and maintain health and safety in the salon whilst developing your skills in cutting, including facial hair and colour to create a variety of looks. To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme.

Course Content

English and Maths
If you are aged under 19 and if you do not hold a GCSE grade C or higher in English and Maths, you will be required to work towards these qualifications.
Entry Requirements
  • Level 2 in Hairdressing/Barbering
  • Plus either Functional Skills English and Maths, or 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths. 
  • Tutor recommendation and a good attendance report will be an advantage.

Candidates will also need to have a work placement agreed.

Assessment
The course is continuously assessed by both practical and written assignments/tests to demonstrate competence.
Activities
This course offers appropriate work experience to complement the knowledge and skills you will learn at College
What does this course lead to?

Higher Education - study a Level 4 Diploma or Award at BCoT and progress towards salon management or a degree.

Employment - within the industry or progress onto an Apprenticeship

Equipment Required

Learners will be required to purchase professional workwear, equipment and products which will be purchased directly from an approved college supplier, order forms will be provided during the enrolment period. An additional kit may be required depending on course content, including men training heads.

Additional Costs
Each learner is responsible for purchasing general stationery items including a memory stick.
Financial Information
If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free.
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.
Staged Payment
A staged payment plan is available to help with course fees.
Reduced Fees
Fee concessions may be available if you are out of work, on low income or studying for your first Level 1 or Level 2 qualification.
Bursaries
If you are unable to pay any of the course costs, or need financial assistance you may be eligible to receive a college bursary.

Travel Subsidy
BCoT offers discount on travel to and from the college for full time students. We offer 50% discount on rail fares and if you are travelling by bus, we offer 25% off Zone 2 buses outside of Basingstoke. There is financial assistance available for those families on a low income.
