Level 3 Diploma in Retail (Management)
Course Overview

This course is designed for those wishing to gain a Level 3 in Retail. There are three pathways to choose from: sales professional, management or visual merchandising.

Course Content

The diploma involves completing units which add up to a minimum of 43 credits. This consists of 1 mandatory unit and the candidate's choice of optional units.

Mandatory unit

  • Work effectively in your retail organisation

Optional units

  • Plan, monitor and adjust staffing levels and schedules
  • Help to manage a retail team
  • Audit stock levels and stock inventories
  • Evaluate the receipt of payments from customers
  • Help to monitor and maintain the security of the retail unit
  • Choose merchandise to feature in visual merchandising displays
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of retail operations
  • Recruit, select and keep colleagues
  • Allocate and check work in your team
  • Provide a personalised sales and after sales service to your retail clients

Students will be allocated a personal assessor and supplied with all the necessary reading and assessment material. The assessor will provide personal tutorial support at pre-arranged times, students will also be assessed in the workplace using observation, witness testimonies and professional discussion.

Entry Requirements

Designed for those who are retail supervisors, assistant managers or store managers.


Assessment is by production of a personal portfolio of evidence demonstrating understanding and application of the level 3 Diploma performance criteria.
