HND in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering
Course Overview

This course is ideal if you are already employed in the Engineering industry and wish to enhance your career prospects or if you are looking for a change of career. You will gain knowledge and experience of analysing and working with electrical principles applicable to current technologies. To develop your knowledge you will undertake a range of lab work and hands on projects, mixed with academic theory. During your course we will also support you in developing key skills, including maths, problem solving, decision making, IT and communication.

Course Content

On this course you will:

  • Benefit from part time delivery - so you can combine work and study
  • Gain industry knowledge and learn through practical experience
  • Develop your knowledge and understanding of modules including Engineering Thermodynamics, Strengths of Materials, Further Analytical Methods for Engineers and Heat Transfer and Combustion
Entry Requirements

Must be aged 18 or over
Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification and/or
Relevant work experience
Successful interview with course leader
GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above
For international students there is an ESOL requirement/IELTS score of 6 (minimum of 5.5 across every element).


You will be assessed by producing evidence that meets the outcomes of each unit. Assessment is continuous and includes assignments, case studies, projects and presentations together with any work related projects that may meet the requirements. It is likely that the evidence provided will include and involve real work based projects from your employer or other related companies.

What does this course lead to?
On successful completion of this course you can progress to Higher Education programmes such as a BSc or BEng. The qualification also acts as a stepping stone towards registration as a professional engineer.

If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study.
